Biohellenika Laboratories

The central laboratories of Biohellenika in Thessaloniki, with a total area of 2280 m², are located in the facilities of the ZEDA building. The company has six sterile rooms of positive pressure, which are daily inspected according to the strictest guidelines (British ministry of health guidelines ISO-14644-5).

The laboratories of Biohellenika are operating autonomously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and are inspected daily according to the instructions of the European Community and provide excellent conditions of stem cells preservation.

All the required tests are performed in the equipped laboratories of quality control which are on the way of being certified by the National Council of Certification aiming to become reference lab for this kind of examinations.

The laboratories of Biohellenika are supported by two electric power generators, stabilizer of voltage, camera-observation system and 24 hours of labs recording as well as a system of automatic intake of liquid nitrogen.

The company is supported by a double system of central computer (server) equipped with specialized systems of security, triple system of continuous back-up and a net of 35 computers.

Εργαστήρια - Biohellenika

The basic software of the company (CRM-ERP-LIMS) is a special application which was adapted from the very beginning in a way to cover the specifications of the quality systems that the company follows.

The company has independent laboratories in Athens with three sterile rooms of positive pressure in an area of 800m², which are at 28A Archelaou street, in Athens.

The laboratories in Athens are the product of the collaboration between Biohellenika and the National Hellenic Research Foundation, shortly TAKEIE.

The constant increase in the number of parents from South Greece, who showed us their preference and trusted us with their children’s stem cells, led to the need to establish laboratories in Athens. With respect to this preference and in an effort to improve the quality of services provided, considering that the time elapsed between labor and cryopreservation is now minimized, BIOHELLENIKA initiated this collaboration with the National Research Institute. This collaboration with the National Research Institute has the added benefits of security and assurance of cryopreservation for the next 20 years.

Biohellenika preserves cord blood stem cells at two different locations, after separation into two equal parts, as described in the private contract. One part is preserved at Thessaloniki’s laboratories and the other part at TAK-EIE’s laboratories, which are housed at the Institute’s shelter, one of the safest places in Greece. A specific article in the private contract describes that if for any reason the mother company seizes to operate, preservation of all of Biohellenika‘s samples will continue under the responsibility of the National Research Institute.

With this collaboration, Biohellenika aims to promote its stem cell applications all over Greece and at the same time, make the procedure more user-friendly for the public.

Biohellenika also has an information office in the centre of Thessaloniki (170m²) and facilities (500m²) in Thessaloniki’s suburbs, where the Department of Research and Development will be transferred.

The fully equipped laboratories of Biohellenika operate autonomously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and are daily inspected according to the instructions of the European Community providing excellent preservation and storage conditions.

All the required tests are performed as international guidelines impose and all procedures followed are accredited by the Hellenic Accreditation System according to the certification No 410 8/2/2008 aiming to be a reference laboratory for this kind of tests.

The expectant parents can visit the laboratories of the company and have a brief tour accompanied by a special scientist, after the arrangement of an appointment.
